A message from Rabbi Sharon Brous, Melissa Balaban, and Rabbi Ronit Tsadok:

We are living during a difficult and unsettling time, with hostility directed toward Jews, Muslims, immigrants, transgender people, and other vulnerable groups in our country. And at the same time, we are witness to heartening demonstrations of love. Just last week, a group of Muslims raised over $100,000 to help rebuild a desecrated Jewish cemetery in St. Louis and again stood with us today after an attack on a cemetery in Philadelphia, saying: “Whatever extremists destroy, we will rebuild.” A campaign today from New Israel Fund called upon the Jewish community to donate in support of a mosque that was set on fire in Tampa, and countless messages of solidarity are being shared with the hashtag #JewsMuslimsResistTogether.

You may have heard the troubling news that Westboro Baptist Church is planning to protest outside of Shalhevet tomorrow morning at 7am. Westboro is an organization dedicated to spreading hatred toward Jews and the LGBTQ community.

The students will be off-site and security experts have advised that people do not show up in counter-protest, as this will just draw greater attention to them. We also strongly encourage you to take a different route if you normally drive past Shalhevet in the morning.

Instead, we are organizing a campaign to raise money in support of the Trevor Project, an organization that provides life-saving support for transgender youth and adults, who are now facing even greater discrimination. We are asking you to pledge $1 (or more) for every minute that Westboro is at Shalhevet. Let us together turn their hatred into love, supporting the very people they seek to denigrate and diminish.  CLICK HERE TO MAKE YOUR PLEDGE

Also, donate to IKAR to help us send sweet treats to our friends at Shalhevet or in honor of Minyan Tzedek, our social justice work.
