IKAR EVENT TZEDAKAH
As part of IKAR's commitment to connecting spiritual growth with social action, we request that each person attending an IKAR event bring with them one can of food, which we then donate to SOVA Food Pantry to help feed our city's hungry.
"In every city inhabited by Jews, it is the duty of the community to appoint well-known and trustworthy persons to act as collectors of tzedakah, who will go around and take collections each week just before Shabbat. They should ask each individual to give what is appropriate for that individual to give, based on her specific circumstances and capacity, and they should distribute what they have collected, [ideally] that Friday, giving each poor person sustenance sufficient for seven days... It is our obligation to be more meticulous in the performance of this commandment than in any other positive commandment, for giving tzedakah is the mark of a righteous person."
