Rabbi Barbara Zacky

R’ Zacky began attending services at IKAR while in rabbinic school at the Academy for Jewish Religion, CA — a trans-denominational pluralistic institution dedicated to the training of rabbis, cantors, chaplains, and other Jewish communal leaders — and was ordained in 2009 with an emphasis in chaplaincy. She also serves on the Founders Council at the Williams Institute, a think tank at UCLA Law School dedicated to conducting rigorous independent research on sexual orientation and gender identity law and public policy. In addition, she serves on the board of Equality California, an organization dedicated to advancing civil rights and social justice by inspiring, advocating, and mobilizing through an inclusive movement on behalf of those they serve.

As an out Jewish lesbian since 1969, R’ Zacky finds that her rabbinate, MBA, and service as a rabbi/chaplain – and her work as a board member – serve all parts of herself and the communities in which she lives.
