FAMILY EDUCATION PLANS
At IKAR we strive for the years of learning and preparation leading up to our students' b'nai mitzvah to be challenging, inspiring, and deeply moving. Over the past three years, we have seen our students far exceed their spiritual and intellectual expectations and discover their voices in our tradition. We want to ensure that this is also the case for our families, who have the opportunity to join in rich and compelling learning and Jewish engagement. Every family with a child in 5th grade and up works with Rabbi Brous to create a Family Education Plan (an FEP) that will inspire and challenge all members of the family to ask critical questions, to explore and experiment, to learn and grow during the b'nai mitzvah experience.
The FEPs will be individually tailored to guide each family on a Jewish exploration, to expand their knowledge base and comfort levels, and to receive guidance on personal spiritual questions. Our hope is that through this process, every child's b'nai mitzvah journey will be even more rewarding as a life experience. Over the next several months and years, the family works to implement the plan, checking in from time to time, sharing thoughts, experiences and progress.
